Avocado being the first baby food has a lot of health benefits. It is also considered equivalent to the nutrients in breast milk. Rich in vitamin C, E, K & B6, magnesium, potassium and loaded with fibres making it a superfood for babies and toddlers.

My kids love avocado without any added salt or lime in it. But if your’s is not a big fan of its bland taste, you can make it tastier by adding lime and a pinch of salt (for babies above 12 months). This flatbread is extremely soft and makes a great finger food for babies 6 months and above. It is not only good for babies but for postpartum moms who are looking to lose weight, this is a great option.

What you need for Avocado flatbread recipe?

  • Avocado – Pick a ripened avocado. It looks black outside and will be soft when you touch. If it is green, leave it for a couple of days to ripen.
  • Whole wheat flour – Choose an organic wheat flour which can be used for other baby recipes. Alternately, you can choose to use multigrain flour (check out homemade multigrain flour recipe).
  • Lime juice (optional) – One tbsp of lime juice helps avocado to stay green and fresh. You can choose not to add it if you are not planning to store the dough.
  • Salt (optional) – One tbsp salt can be added optionally if the baby is 12 month and above.

How to make Avocado flatbread recipe or avocado paratha or avocado chapathi?

Make sure to use a ripened avocado. There is no need to add water or oil to the dough as the oil in avocado is sufficient. You can choose to add any spice you need as per the taste. I have not added any spices, but it still tastes great. This avocado flatbread recipe is simple and easy to make. Follow the steps below:

  • Mash a ripened avocado using a fork in a bowl until there are no lumps and it becomes a smooth paste.
  • Optionally add lime juice and salt to avocado and mix it.
  • Add a cup of whole wheat flour or multigrain flour and mix it thoroughly to form a soft and stiff dough. Add more flour if required.
  • If the dough becomes too hard, sprinkle some water and knead again. You can choose to store the dough in refrigerator for up to 3 days in an air tight container.
  • Take equal parts from the dough and flatten them using a rolling pin. You can use some flour to dust on the surface to flatten so that the dough does not stick to the surface.
  • Meanwhile heat a pan or skillet and place the flatbread to cook. Cook on both sides by flipping them. You can smear some butter if required.
  • Avocado flatbread is now ready. Serve it along with yoghurt or dal or any curry of your choice.
