Unlike traditional bread recipes, I have not used any flour in this banana bread making it a gluten-free recipe. This is not only good for kids but a good family food to sit and enjoy.

Please Note: This recipe might contain an allergen. If introducing to babies, please make sure your baby is not allergic to any ingredient.

What do you need for this Healthy Banana Bread Recipe?

This healthy banana bread is made using organic ingredients. Here are the 6 ingredients that you need to make it.

  • Banana – A ripened banana acts as a natural sweetener and gives a good smell and flavour to the bread. You can ripen the banana by baking in the oven for best results.
  • Egg – One large egg acts as a binding agent. This is an allergen and it is essential to introduce it separately for babies before trying this recipe.
  • Oats – I have used roasted and powdered oats to make this bread which is a healthy alternate for flours. You can choose to use coconut flour or store bought oats flour as well.
  • Dates – A natural sweetener and also high in Iron, dates makes this bread healthier and tastier. You either use a date paste or date syrup.
  • Baking soda – A pinch of baking soda makes this bread fluffy and soft. You can choose to not add them.
  • Vanilla essence (optional) – I added a couple drops to introduce flavor to my kids. You can choose to not add it, banana does give a natural flavour anyway.

Making of these healthy snack ideas for Toddlers

Now that you have all the ingredients, follow the below instructions to make this healthy banana bread recipe.

  • Mash two ripened bananas using a fork in a mixing bowl until there are no lumps in it.
  • Beat in an egg and mix well with banana.
  • Add a cup of powdered oats to this mixture. Add in parts to avoid lumps. Mix well to get a slightly thick dough consistency.
  • Add baking soda, dates syrup and vanilla essence and give it a good mix.
  • Alternately, you can choose to add all the ingredients to a blender and blend them to form a dough.
  • Meanwhile, preheat the oven to 350 degrees and grease the bread pan with butter or avocado oil.
  • Pour in the dough into the bread pan and bake the bread for upto 20 mins until you see golden brown colour.
  • Turn off the oven and allow it to cool down.
  • Note that the bread will continue to bake even when it is cooling down so do not try to overbake it – baking for longer makes the bread hard.
  • Once cooled down, you can enjoy the soft and fluffy banana bread.

Tips

  • You can store this banana bread for up to 3 days at room temperature and for up to 5 days in refrigerator.
  • You can replace egg with a cup of flaxseed in case of allergy or want an eggless version.
  • Optionally you can add some nuts if you want. It adds a good flavour and texture to bread.
  • Oats can be replaced with coconut flour or all-purpose flour alternately.
